Why Every Home Should Have A Porch

There is no doubt about it, a porch increases the value of your home. Not only that, but it is also a functional addition to your home that you will use almost every day.

A front porch creates a welcoming look, both to those passing on the street, and those entering your home. Just think about handing out candy next Halloween from your porch.

A porch also adds more space to put yard furniture, plants, storage, and more. Where the bare ground is not always the best place to store something, a porch provide a secure and flat area for all of your needs. You can also add screens to your porch so that you can enjoy the great outdoors without the nasty bugs and critters.

Types Of Porches

There are many different styles of porches and it is important to know what you want before you choose one. You may also be restricted by the space you have around your home. Read on to find out more, or give us a call.

Front Porches

Front porches are the most common style of porches and, even when you have side and wraparound porches, they are usually connected to a front porch. When we talk about a front porch, we are basically talking about an extra, open room at the front of your house, outside of your front door.

Even front porches come in many styles. Some have no covering and others do. You can also choose to leave a front porch open, or have a barrier between the front porch and your yard. If you want to go all the way, you can also add screens to your front porch, essentially closing it in, while still being outside.

They are a great place to relax in both the sun and the shade, and they are also an addition to your home that bring community. You will find that if you sit out on your front porch, you will meet more of your neighbors and those in your community.

Screened Porches

Screened porches are great if you live in an area with lots of bugs and other small animals. In fact, there are certain areas where screen porches are essential. It does not matter what type of porch you have, you can convert it to a screened porch. We can build a screened porch for you, or add a screen to your existing porch.

A screened porch allows you to relax outside of your home without having to worry about wasps, hornets, mosquitoes, and more. They also stop birds from nesting in your porch and help to keep your porch clean.

Screened porches also add an extra layer of security to your home, deterring would-be thieves, even if that deterrent is merely superficial.

Back Porches

A back porch is basically the same as a front porch, except it is located on the back of your home instead of the front. Just like a front porch, your back door will exit directly onto your back porch, and that porch can form part of a wraparound porch. You can also add screens to a back porch.

The main benefit of a back porch is privacy. If you like the idea of having a porch attached to your home, but do not want to be sat out front where everyone can see you, then a back porch is an ideal place to relax.

You may also want a back porch if the sun falls mainly on the back of you house (or, you may prefer it if that is where the shade is).

Wraparound Porches

If you have the space, then a wraparound porch is quite an addition to your home. You can add a porch to two, three, or all four sides of your home. When we look at the old prairie houses that reside in history, the wraparound porch is an addition that adds a quaint elegance to a home, and you can recreate that with yours.

Wraparound porches bring all of the benefits of a front or back porch but give you more space to work with. If you like to entertain, then a wraparound porch is the perfect place to host a barbecue or a dinner party.

A wraparound porch will also add value to your home along with enhancing its appearance.
